Version 4.11.0 is mostly for submitters. You can say which channel should get your video while you upload it, every video is offered twice instead of once, and in the end everything tidies itself up without anything disappearing from your list.
A preferred channel right at the upload
The form behind "Upload Video" now has a "Preferred channel" field. Pick the channel we should offer your video to first. The choice is optional, and without it everything works as before.
- Only channels your upload can actually reach are listed. Channels that are not accepting videos right now are left out.
- If the wish cannot be met, for example because the channel has reached its weekly limit, the normal distribution takes over.
- You can see the channel you picked again in the details of the video.
Until now this only worked through the eighth column of info.csv. That still works, but nobody has to edit a file for it any more.
Every video gets a second round
An offer a channel let pass was gone for good. There are two rounds by default now. First every channel that never had the video gets its turn. Only once every reachable channel has had it do channels with an expired offer get a second chance.
Offers you returned and offers that were downloaded are never repeated. How many rounds there are is set centrally by the team.
Videos tidy themselves up in the end
When a video will not be offered anywhere again, because a channel downloaded it or every reachable channel had it without a free round left, we mark it as deleted automatically. The files stay for another four weeks and are only then removed for good.
For you this means:
- As a channel operator you can still fetch a video in the "Downloaded" tab with "Download again" as long as the file is there. Only once it is gone for good does the offer say "no longer available".
- As a submitter your video no longer disappears from the list. It stays with the state "Distribution finished", without a detail page and without a delete button.
- Offers and downloads stay as history.
Note
If a channel is added shortly after the last round, it will usually still be offered the video. Only once the video is marked as deleted is the distribution over.
Signing in to other applications works again
The pages "Allow access" and "Connect a device" ran into an error recently. They work again and name the application together with the permissions it asks for. If you are not signed in, you are sent to the sign-in page first and land back exactly where you were.
For channel operators with their own application
Channel settings can now be changed through the interface as well, just like on the settings page: name, creator name, email address, the pause for incoming videos and the entry on the home page. The logo has its own calls for uploading and removing it, and PNG, JPEG and WebP up to 512 KB are allowed.
Help from the team
If someone needs support, the team can open the view of an account and sees the same thing you do. Downloads are not counted while that happens, so your channel history stays clean, and the start and the end of every such view are recorded.
Your next step
Pick a "Preferred channel" the next time you upload, when you know where your video fits best. As a channel operator it is worth looking at the "Available" tab: videos you did not manage the first time show up there again in the second round. Your notifications are set in your profile as usual.
